Learn More about Annual Celebration Week
As part of the 2019 Chamber Celebration Week the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with United Way of Northwest Michigan to participate in a Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 21, 2019.
Community service is a vital part of our region’s values, and the motivation behind the Chamber’s annual Distinguished Service Award (DSA), which will be at the core of our Celebration Week activities. The DSA is among this region’s oldest civic honors, dating to 1929. Over the years, the DSA has recognized the contributions of dozens of area men and women for their commitment to the betterment of the Grand Traverse area.
To extend that service commitment throughout Celebration Week, the Chamber and United Way have organized Day of Service activities. Chamber members are invited and encouraged – with colleagues, organized groups, families or solo – to join us in giving back through the following:
- A Community Read Aloud initiative at the Traverse Area District Library and Great Lakes Children’s Museum to support youth literacy.
- A Ranch Work Day at the Reigning Liberty Ranch that supports Veterans and Military Families.
- A Food & Hygiene Drive from Jan. 7 – 21 to support the Spirit Youth Pantry through the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District.
- Creating Welcome Home Baskets supporting area homeless families; you can create a basket to drop off, create a basket from 9 – 11 a.m. or donate funds to have a basket prepared by volunteers.
