Mary Manner from the 5 to 1 program will provide updates on this topic. \n\n- Healthcare: The Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation is working on raising the final $8M of an $80M capital campaign that will provide a consolidated Family Birth & Children's Center\, surgical\, heart and cancer service projects\, the addition of four operating rooms and upgraded neonatal intensive care facilities. Deborah Henderson from Munson will provide updates on this topic. \n\n- Arts & Culture: Megan Kelto from the Crooked Tree Arts Center will provide updates on this topic. \n\n- Legislative Updates: The November elections are right around the corner and numerous ballot initiatives that could greatly impact the future of our local\, regional and state economy will be decided. \n\n \n\n \n\nEspresso Panel: Business Development Updates\n\nThis panel will feature important topic updates from our community in a recognizable three part (where we are\, where we're going\, how to get involved) format. Laura Galbraith from Venture North Funding & Development will provide updates on this topic. \n\n- Manufacturing Industry: Manufacturers in our region are being impacted by workforce shortages and trade tariffs. Rich Wolin from the Grand Traverse Manufacturing Council will provide updates on this topic. \n\n- Downtown Development: Downtown Traverse City is under new direction and with that new direction brings a new business incubator\, a public square\, an experimental fish passage project and more. Jean Derenzy from the Downtown Development Authority will provide updates on this topic.\n\n\n\n \n\nBalancing Vision with Execution \n\nWhether you're in an executive role or not\, any level of employee should be able to have an idea\, participant in a vision\, and be able to think beyond a task. Coming up with ideas and getting into the 30\,000-foot level is not really that hard\, doesn't everyone dram a bit? But coming out of the clouds\, having the rubber meet the road\, and executing the idea is the challenge. This session with identify why this is important but spend most of the time providing tools on how to balance the fine area a vision to execution.\n\n\n\n\n\nImplicit Bias #2: \n\nJohn Parker-Der Boghossian will introduce the concept of Implicit Bias and how individuals can begin to recognize its impact on their actions in daily life. His breakout session will take a deeper look at the science behind how implicit bias is created\, how it informs our decision-making and interventions we can take to reduce the impact of our biases. This presentation breaks down the science of how our brains create implicit bias in our daily lives\, how this informs our decision-making\, and interventions we can take to address implicit biases that impact others can and lead to discrimination against marginalized communities. Session participants will walk away with key strategies (based on peer reviewed\, evidence-based science) on how to identify and address implicit biases as well as resources for further education and support for their efforts to address implicit bias.\n\n\n\nLean Processing: \n\nLean manufacturing or lean production\, often simply "lean"\, is a systematic method for waste minimization without sacrificing productivity. Lean also takes into account waste created through overburden and waste created through unevenness in work loads.\n\n\n\nAn Introduction to Positive Psychology in the Workplace with Bill Palladino: \n\nShawn Achor is the NY Times best-selling author of The Happiness Advantage\, Before Happiness\, and Big Potential. He is the world's leading researcher on the impact of positive psychology in the workplace. He has won more than a dozen distinguished educator awards at Harvard University\, and is the featured speaker in one of the top Ted Talks of all time. This breakout session will provide a brief introduction to the research and concepts from Achor's books as presented in his award-winning workshop The Orange Frog Workshop developed by the International Thought Leader Network.
