Streets Maintenance Worker

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Streets, and daily supervision of the Streets Supervisor, the Streets Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled activities, with emphasis on heavy equipment operations to support construction, maintenance, stormwater-related projects and clearing streets and alleys from debris, snow and ice. Work requires proficiency in operating large vehicles and machinery, as well as knowledge of construction trades, methods, and techniques. This position is responsible for performing complex maintenance tasks, ensuring public safety, and adhering to all applicable safety standards and regulations. Work schedules may include irregular hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins. This is a full-time union position. Starting pay is $26.55 per hour.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional applicable related course work or experience as necessary to maintain ability and skills.
  • Must have thorough experience in the operation of large vehicles and equipment.
  • Heavy equipment operation and road construction and maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in concrete and/or asphalt construction techniques preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and obtain and maintain a CDL Class A license with air brakes and "N" endorsement within one hundred twenty (120) workdays from date of hire.
  • Must reside and maintain principal residence within 30 miles from the nearest city limit within twelve months of the date of hire.
  • Construction and maintenance practices, including concrete, masonry, and asphalt work.
  • Stormwater system maintenance methods and inspection techniques.
  • Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment, large trucks, and specialized vehicles.
  • Reading and interpreting work orders, diagrams, maps, and grade specifications.
  • Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
