Position Summary:
The Transportation Specialist supports the functions and activities of Interlochen’s Transportation Unit, including responding to requests for service and assistance, student, staff, and guest transportation needs, emergency preparedness, and other transportation support services. Applicants must have the ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Models the Interlochen's core values and champions the mission and vision of the organization.
Provide vehicle transportation of individuals and property as needed and appropriate.
Complete, submit, and maintain daily trip records and logs consistent with Transportation Unit and ICA requirements and operational needs.
Perform and document necessary vehicle inspections consistent with Transportation Unit and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
Responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and basic daily upkeep of vehicles.
Receive, inventory, and distribute golf carts for the annual ICA golf cart program. Conduct regular inspections and facilitate repairs as needed.
Assist the Transportation Supervisor in training, mentoring, and supporting Transportation Unit staff in performing daily duties, safety and regulatory protocols, and other responsibilities.
Assist the Transportation Supervisor in activities related to daily log submissions.
Assists the Transportation Supervisor in developing efficient transportation routes, coordinating driver schedules, and allocating resources to optimize vehicle usage and reduce travel time.
Exercise judgment in answering daily procedural Transportation-related questions.

Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Office Setting: Primarily works in an office setting, using computers, phones, and software systems to manage logistics, plan routes, and oversee operations.
Field Work: May require occasional visits to vehicle storage, maintenance facilities, or field sites to inspect vehicles or resolve issues involving some physical activity.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
Experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations, with a proven ability to oversee large-scale operations required.
Experience in a school or campus setting is preferred.
Equipment Familiarity:
Mac Os Laptop, Google Suite, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Gmail
Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Possession of a valid CDL (Class A or B) is preferred.
Familiarity with Department of Transportation(DOT) regulations is required and a DOT certification in safety or compliance is preferred.
AED/CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Check
Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier required.
