Position Summary: The Transportation Supervisor oversees and manages a group of Transportation Unit employees. The supervisor is responsible for directing and overseeing employees assigned to perform functions and activities of Interlochen’s Transportation Unit, including responding to requests for service and assistance, student, staff, and guest transportation needs, emergency preparedness, and other transportation support services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Models the Interlochen's core values and champions the mission and vision of the organization.

  • Assist with recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, and evaluating a diverse staff.

  • Provides effective liaison between employees and senior leadership to promote goodwill, cooperation, and open communications within the department.

  • Ensure employees meet customer service expectations and follow established operating procedures, reporting guidelines, and documentation.

  • Supervise a team of Transportation Unit staff, providing guidance and support as needed.

  • Evaluate the work performance of assigned staff and initiate corrective and disciplinary actions in conjunction with department leadership and ICA Human Resources.

  • Train, mentor, and support Transportation staff in performing daily duties, safety and regulatory protocols, and other responsibilities.

  • Supervise department activities related to daily log submissions, unit records, and billing information to ensure submission completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.

  • Ensures compliance with established safety and regulatory protocols.

  • Develop efficient transportation routes, coordinate schedules, and allocate resources to optimize vehicle usage and reduce travel time.

  • Supervise and conduct periodic vehicle inspections to ensure vehicle cleanliness and upkeep. Identify and address issues to ensure vehicle safety and regulatory compliance.

  • Monitors ongoing travel and transportation issues, responds to and coordinates requests for assistance, and communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders and departments

  • Exercise judgment in answering daily procedural Transportation-related questions.

  • Ensures the appropriate use of materials, equipment, and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community.

  • Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

Office Setting: Primarily works in an office setting, using computers, phones, and software systems to manage logistics, plan routes, and oversee operations.

Field Work: May require occasional visits to vehicle storage, maintenance facilities, or field sites to inspect vehicles or resolve issues involving some physical activity.

 

Required Experience:

Education: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's Degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience in transportation management, logistics, or fleet operations, with a proven ability to oversee large-scale operations.

  • Experience in a school or campus setting is preferred.

Equipment Familiarity:

  • Mac Os Laptop, Google Suite, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Gmail

Certifications, Licenses, or Special Training: ?

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.

  • Possession of a valid CDL (Class A or B) is preferred.

  • Familiarity with Department of Transportation(DOT) regulations required. DOT certification in safety or compliance preferred.

  • AED/CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
