Goodwill Northern Michigan
Goodwill Northern Michigan is a community-owned 501c3 nonprofit working in Northern Michigan to bring food to neighbors and help people find home. We are governed by a board of directors and led by an executive director who live and work in our region. We sell donated goods in our thrift stores—what we call our social enterprise—and we seek charitable contributions to address critical needs of food and housing in our community.
Our stores provide the financial foundation of our community programs, allowing us to serve some of our most vulnerable neighbors through Food Rescue, Street Outreach, the Goodwill Inn, Supportive Housing, Good Meals, and Patriot Place. Store revenues cover the administrative costs of our community programs, and provide funding for those programs, too. Our stores also support the Good Partner Voucher program, providing free store vouchers to families and individuals in crisis in our 19-county Northern Michigan region.
We’re a community-owned, independent member of Goodwill Industries International, a network of 156 community-based organizations in the US and 25 other countries. We operate eight thrift stores in our 19-county region: Acme, Alpena, Cadillac, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Gaylord, Petoskey, and Traverse City. Ninety-nine percent of our revenue stays in Northern Michigan.
