About Us

Grand Traverse Ophthalmology Clinic has provided full-service medical, surgical and optical eye care to northern Michigan for more than 75 years. Dr. John Beall established the first clinic location above the old Petertyl Drug Store in downtown Traverse City in 1946. Dr. Jack Weih and Dr. William Cartwright joined Dr. Beall, and the expanding medical practice moved to the corner of Front Street and Garfield Street in 1963.

For many years, GTOC was the only clinic in northern lower Michigan providing specialty care by an ophthalmologist. To better serve our patients, GTOC moved the clinic in 1999 to our current location off Three Mile Road on Business Park Drive. In 2004, GTOC began providing medical and surgical services in Sault Ste. Marie. in 2013, GTOC opened an office in the Petoskey area. We are proud of our more than 75 years of service, and look forward to providing continued quality eye care to our communities.

Our optical department provides a full range of styles and prices. Our emphasis is quality and service.

We currently have 8 Ophthalmologists on staff, and 6 Optometrists. We specialize in Cataract Surgery, Glaucoma Eye Care, Diabetic Eye Care, Corneal Transplants, Macular Degeneration, LASIK Eye Surgery, Eyelid Plastic Surgery, Orthoptic Services, Pediatric Eye Care, Adult Strabismus, as well as Comprehensive Eye Examinations.
