About Us

The National Writers Series (NWS) is a nonprofit organization based in Traverse City, Michigan, dedicated to celebrating the written word and connecting readers with the world’s most influential authors. Since its founding in 2010, NWS has hosted more than 250 events featuring Pulitzer Prize winners, New York Times bestselling authors, journalists, poets, and thought leaders. Each event offers audiences the chance to hear directly from writers in dynamic, in-conversation formats that spark curiosity, connection, and community dialogue.

Beyond author events, NWS is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of storytellers through its Raising Writers programs, scholarships, and youth writing workshops. By combining world-class literary programming with meaningful educational opportunities, NWS strengthens Traverse City’s reputation as one of the few designated “Book Cities” in the nation and builds a thriving cultural hub in Northern Michigan.
