About Us
The Traverse City Philharmonic is northern Michigan’s leading regional performing arts ensemble. It is a professional, part-time orchestra with a core base of quality musicians from throughout the area. Many hold music-related positions as faculty and staff members of nearby Interlochen Center for the Arts and regional school districts. An increasing number of musicians travel from as far as Lansing, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor to perform with the orchestra. Maestro Kevin Rhodes has led the orchestra to critical acclaim during his 20+ year tenure. Under his leadership, the orchestra has created an innovative season of concerts featuring leading guest artists from the national and international circuit.
The Traverse City Philharmonic also developed a Community Music School, opened in September 2024 and housed in the new Traverse City Philharmonic Center, to serve students of all ages in our five-county region. This school builds upon the past educational offerings of the TC Phil to include our Civic Orchestra and Chamber Ensembles, Music Appreciation Classes, Family Concerts, Suzuki music classes, Masterworks in Miniature, Tots@TADL, TC Phil in the Schools, and add new Parent and Baby classes, continuing education for Seniors, Private Music Lessons, and a Youth Orchestra.
