North Sky Raptor Sanctuary Prepares to Build Northern Michigan’s First Public Raptor Center

Organization announces donor match of $100,000, raising funds for final architecture and civil engineering.

Traverse City, Mich. - North Sky Raptor Sanctuary is pleased to announce a special donor match of $100,000 to complete the final architecture and civil engineering steps required to begin building the first public raptor rehabilitation, research and community education center in northern Michigan at Camp Greilick (4754 Scout Camp Rd.). To learn more about the organization and plans for the site, visit: www.northskyraptor.org.

“Once completed, this impactful community resource will provide the region with a brand new wildlife education center hosting dynamic programming featuring live birds of prey by internationally certified trainers and educators, a state of the art avian hospital and reconditioning facility, and a fully accessible interpretive trail winding through the beautiful hills of the park,” said Jeffrey Bohnet, Board President of North Sky Raptor Sanctuary. “If you’ve been considering supporting progress toward building this unique community hub, now is the time, as you can see your contribution doubled!”

The project is occurring alongside the revitalization of Camp Greilick, Grand Traverse County’s newest park, and North Sky Raptor Sanctuary already has commitments of just under $1 million dollars toward its construction, which will take a currently underutilized two acre parcel of property and make transformational improvements, including the construction of a 4,900 sq. ft. immersive wildlife center and bird of prey hospital, and an outdoor interpretive trail featuring 10 live, non-releasable ambassador raptors.

“In addition to raising funds for the final site preparation work, opportunities still exist for named sponsorships for features of the facility, including bird mews, a surgical suite, unique learning spaces, or to help the organization purchase equipment for future livestreaming capabilities, which will make the facility more accessible to locals, snow birds, and anyone in the world interested in learning more about and observing raptors” Bohnet added.
