Position Summary:
Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking for an electrician technician to join a dynamic team and participate in the Maintenance department. There are over 450 buildings that range from state of the art facilities to seasonal cabins and they all have maintenance needs. No day will be the same and will keep you challenged and building on your electrician expertise. Plus, you won't have to travel all around northern Michigan wondering where your next job will be. This position will assist with completing work order requests, preventative maintenance and repairs, mechanical equipment, and utility systems. Flexible schedule to work some evenings or weekends during concert events or special campus events. This is a full time position with workdays Monday through Friday with working hours between 7:00 am - 3:30 pm or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs minor and major electrical repair to all buildings, electrical services, generators, equipment and other assigned tasks.
Manage and work on electrical scope for various construction projects. Includes education, assembly, residential, commercial, health services, dining services and other electrical use groups.
Help maintain the campus medium voltage primary grid (overhead & underground)
Maintain licenses & certifications required to perform maintenance & repairs on Facility systems and buildings.
Responds to typical & emergency work order requests
Part of the Summer Concert Series electrical team, evening/night hours (Shared coverage of events at Kresge)
After hours emergency response as needed
Work with & Test Fire Alarm & Fire Pump systems
Testing Campus Generators & transfer switches (1.5MW system)
Maintain Security Systems (cameras, gates, access control systems)
Service electrical systems related to domestic wells & wastewater treatment facilities.
Low Voltage systems service, repair, install (network cabling, security systems, etc)
Willingness to learn, train, receive, & maintain Lenel certified technician status
Receive GIS training and help maintain our GIS database. Also, learn how to operate the GIS collector system to keep campus mapping of utilities up to date.
Other assigned tasks as needed and helping out other departments.
Work Environment:
Work is performed at various sites throughout the campus environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact. Work performed both indoors and outdoors.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a technical training program in electrical work or apprenticeship preferred (vocational school or community college) or willingness to complete a technical training program required.
Experience:
2 - 4 years of responsible experience in building and electrical equipment maintenance and repair preferred or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
Electrical Journeyman license preferred.
Equipment Familiarity:
Use of hand and power tools.
Understanding of the use of electrical metering, volt meter, underground wire locator
Use of aerial lifts, bucket trucks, fork lift
Ladder use daily, some high extension ladder
Rigging
Excavator, loader, trencher, shovel
Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:
Valid electrician license as required by the state or local municipality (e.g., Journeyman or Master Electrician license) required or willingness to acquire.
OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred or willingness to obtain through ICA education opportunities.
Additional certifications, such as NFPA 70E (electrical safety) or low-voltage certification preferred.
Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required: Ability to work with computers system, technical computer equipment and/or quickly adapt in the technical environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Working knowledge of light and some heavy equipment operation principles, practices and procedures; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to the position; working knowledge of minor equipment maintenance and repair functions.
