The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across campus. This role ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. The technician plays a critical role in maintaining a comfortable and functional environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This is a full time, year round position which includes a complete benefits package.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation units.
Conduct routine inspections of HVAC systems to ensure proper functionality and identify potential issues.
Perform preventative maintenance tasks on a scheduled cyclical basis and troubleshoot malfunctioning HVAC equipment.
Complete work order assignments and utilize our Maintenance management system.
Diagnose and troubleshoot system problems; repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.
Adjust system controls to recommended settings and test system performance.
Maintain records of repairs, calibrations, and preventative maintenance tasks.
Monitor and maintain building automation systems (BAS) for optimal performance.
Assist in energy efficiency improvements and sustainability initiatives.
Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Respond to emergency maintenance requests as needed.
Collaborate with other facilities staff to support campus-wide maintenance needs.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors requiring various weather conditions. May be exposed to hazardous materials and loud noise. Use of PPE is required.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical certification or associate degree in HVAC or a related field preferred or ability to be trained or take necessary technical classes in these areas.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair required.
Mix of commercial and residential repairs.
Equipment Familiarity:
Mac Laptop, Google Suite, MS Office Suite, preferred.
Skilled and comfortable using computers and digital technology.
Typical HVAC tools and testing equipment.
Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:
EPA Section 608 Certification preferred or willingness to obtain. (Type II or Universal preferred).
Additional state or local HVAC licenses preferred (if applicable). Willingness to obtain licensing a plus.
Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Proficient in using HVAC diagnostic tools and hand/power tools.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
