The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across campus. This role ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. The technician plays a critical role in maintaining a comfortable and functional environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This is a full time, year round position which includes a complete benefits package. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation units.

  • Conduct routine inspections of HVAC systems to ensure proper functionality and identify potential issues.

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on a scheduled cyclical basis and troubleshoot malfunctioning HVAC equipment.

  • Complete work order assignments and utilize our Maintenance management system.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system problems; repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.

  • Adjust system controls to recommended settings and test system performance.

  • Maintain records of repairs, calibrations, and preventative maintenance tasks.

  • Monitor and maintain building automation systems (BAS) for optimal performance.

  • Assist in energy efficiency improvements and sustainability initiatives.

  • Follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as needed.

  • Collaborate with other facilities staff to support campus-wide maintenance needs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

Work Environment:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors requiring various weather conditions.  May be exposed to hazardous materials and loud noise.  Use of PPE is required.

Education: High school diploma or GED required.  Technical certification or associate degree in HVAC or a related field preferred or ability to be trained or take necessary technical classes in these areas.

Experience:  

  • 3+ years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair required.

  • Mix of commercial and residential repairs.

Equipment Familiarity: 

  • Mac Laptop, Google Suite, MS Office Suite, preferred. 

  • Skilled and comfortable using computers and digital technology. 

  • Typical HVAC tools and testing equipment.

Certifications, Licenses or Special Training: 

  • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred or willingness to obtain. (Type II or Universal preferred).

  • Additional state or local HVAC licenses preferred (if applicable).  Willingness to obtain licensing a plus.

  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks. 

  • Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and controls.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Proficient in using HVAC diagnostic tools and hand/power tools.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
