The IT Support Intern provides front-line support and assists the Information Technology team while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a dynamic and creative environment. This role emphasizes technical skill-building and customer service, involving help desk phone support, walk-up assistance, initial ticket triage, and administrative duties such as inventory tracking and asset preparation. Interns will also contribute to broader IT projects, including technology deployments and software upgrades. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual eager to explore IT operations while supporting the technology needs that enable Interlochen’s mission.
This is a one year internship with a start date during the middle of August. This internship would work between 30 - 39 hours a week with a flexible work schedule Monday through Fridays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Front-Line Support: Serve as the first point of contact for IT support requests by answering phone calls, assisting users with walk-up requests, and logging and resolving basic support tickets under supervision.
- General Administrative Tasks: Assist with essential IT Support administrative duties, including inventory tracking, stocking supplies, and cleaning/checking in returned IT assets.
- Project Support: Provide support for multi-person IT projects, such as campus-wide computer rollouts, software upgrades, or other initiatives as assigned.
- Basic Troubleshooting: Learn and apply basic troubleshooting steps for common hardware, software, and connectivity issues, escalating more complex problems as needed.
- Documentation Assistance: Assist in updating documentation or internal knowledge base articles with oversight.
- Learning & Development: Actively participate in learning opportunities to develop technical skills and understanding of IT support best practices.
- Complies with ICA policies/procedures and is a good steward of ICA finances.
- Respects the culture, diversity, and rights of all students, their families, and the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Work is performed at the IT Help Desk and at various sites throughout the campus environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact.
Skills and Abilities:
Education: Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a relevant program (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science), OR possess equivalent hands-on experience with interest in the field.
Experience:
- Basic computer literacy (familiarity with macOS or Windows, common software).
- Strong willingness to learn new technologies and procedures.
- Excellent customer service orientation and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Organized, detail-oriented, punctual, and reliable.
