Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools Announces Annual Gladhander Theme

Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools is excited to announce that the theme of the 44th Annual Gladhander Auction and Raffle will be "Marvelous Michigan: A Stately Affair".

Gladhander committee chairs met earlier in the year and voted to select this year's theme. Guests can expect to be transported across the state. From the beauty of Michigan’s iconic landscapes to the state’s rich history, culture, and communities, the evening will celebrate what makes Michigan truly magnificent. Guests will journey through thoughtfully designed spaces that capture the spirit of the Great Lakes State, creating an immersive experience that is both elegant and uniquely Michigan.

The annual formal event involves dinner, drinks, live and online auctions, games, music, and dancing. The fundraiser also includes the sale of raffle tickets that give winners the choice of a brand-new JEEP® Gladiator (arranged by Serra Traverse City) or $38,000 in cash. The $1,000 Early Bird Drawing will be held in October, with the final drawing happening at the event on October 24th. Raffle tickets are on sale now.

The free community Preview Night offers the opportunity to see the transformation and decor while enjoying refreshments and fellowship the night prior, on October 23rd, beginning at 6:00 pm.

The 2025 Gladhander event raised $671,852. Proceeds are primarily directed to support GTACS teacher salaries and student scholarship opportunities. It is one of the longest-running school fundraising events in Michigan, with more than $14 million in earnings over 40 years in support of the Catholic school system.

The Gladhander Auction and Raffle began in 1983 when the school faced a significant budget shortfall of approximately $35,000. A group of concerned people came together and decided to stage an auction to be held at the only venue they could afford, the school itself. A great success, the first Gladhander raised $82,297 and has continued to raise over $14 million during its 44 years.
