The Ultimate Destination for Fall Color Enthusiasts

THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. (September 21, 2023) – Before Crystal Mountain transforms into a winter wonderland covered in white, Mother Nature paints a kaleidoscope of colors across the four-season resort. While the official first day of fall is still a few days away, the fiery reds, deep oranges and golden yellows are already starting to pop through the top of the trees in Benzie County.

"We’re excited to embrace autumn in northern Michigan and show our guests how beautiful this time of year is,” expressed Jen Roberts, Recreation Manager. “When the trees begin to change color, we know the perfect spots for them to soak in the views, whether it’s on a bike, chairlift or just a taking stroll on our hiking trails.”

Scenic Chairlift Rides
This enchanting experience is a must for nature enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone seeking a bird's-eye view of the fall foliage. Visitors are invited to sit back and relax on a quiet chairlift ride to the top of the mountain where panoramic views over three counties awaits. Available Saturdays in September for $10 and Saturdays, Sundays and select Fridays in October for $15.

Fall Fun Saturdays
Every Saturday in October at Crystal Mountain is an opportunity to have the ultimate autumn adventure. Rent a bike to explore 12+ miles of trails through the colorful woods, save your spot on a scenic chairlift ride, vote for your favorite scarecrow on the scarecrow walk, try your hand at pumpkin carving, enjoy horse-drawn Surrey rides through the village, test your archery skills, and so much more. Come for the day or stay the night - there are cozy hotel suites and mountain top resort homes sure to leave guests feeling at home.

Fall Spa Days
Crystal Spa is your sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation this fall season. From October 1 to November 30, 2023, enjoy Fall Spa Days and save up to $40 on all facials and body treatments, including the seasonal favorite, Honey Harvest Glow, and select massages. Plus, spa guests enjoy complimentary access to eucalyptus steam rooms, infrared saunas, an indoor relaxation lounge, and a mosaic hot tub garden. There’s a reason this 18,500-square foot LEED-certified spa was ranked #1 in Michigan by Spas of America.

"While self-care can certainly be considered a luxury, many of our guests say they also consider self-care a necessity,” explained Laurie Peet, Crystal Spa Manager. “Taking time to pamper yourself as the seasons change is an investment in your overall health and happiness. It's a way to recalibrate, find balance, and embrace each new season with renewed energy and serenity.”

Crystal Spa will introduce the Hungarian Gua Sha technique to the menu this fall, as well as the new Chella product line specializing in brow and eye essentials.

Fall Golf
Tee off in the crisp autumn air against a backdrop of breathtaking beauty. Crystal Mountain offers golfers a unique opportunity to play two championship courses surrounded by vibrant foliage. Take advantage of golf specials, with savings of up to 30% on select tee times, and juniors can save up to 60% or golf for free during twilight tee times with a paying adult. The 18-hole golf package, which includes lodging and unlimited use of the learning center starting at $129, is a golfer's dream.

In addition to the daily activities and festive weekends, there are several special events happening at Crystal Mountain this fall. Popular events such as the Founders Peak2Peak Mountain Bike Classic and Annual Ski Swap will return, but there’s also the new Crystal Golf & Give happening October 15 which will support Frankfort and Benzie Central golf programs with $5 from every round going to the teams.

“It is extremely helpful when local businesses like Crystal Mountain step up and show support for our golf programs,” said Andy Rosa, Benzie Central Golf Coach. “This opportunity will help us grow our program and help mold lifelong golfers.”

The golf course is just one of the different ways to view autumn in northern Michigan. There’s also the Michigan Legacy Art Park, a 30-acre wooded preserve featuring 50+ sculptures and other works of art representing Michigan’s history and culture. The nearly 2-mile hiking trail is open year round with each season providing a unique northern Michigan experience.
